The giant wheel cannot be stopped or put back. The best we can do is to see how best we can retreive human dignity and how we can cope with the emerging order without losing the essentials of what we value. --kochuthresiamma p .jhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01320086308375078739noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6702250993908725007.post-11992389919545527882009-01-24T02:21:00.000-08:002009-01-24T02:21:00.000-08:00There is a humorous saying that Cricket was origin...There is a humorous saying that Cricket was originated in Calicut. The Zamorins even had specialised castes who played cricket. The Eradis were the bowlers (Eriyuka meaning throwing), the Adiyodis were the batsemen (Adi - bat, odi, run meaning batting and running between the wickets). I dont know who the fielders were?

But the game has good resemblance to the Kuttiyum Kolum which was played very much in South India. Instead of the boundary, the length of the path of the kutti is measured.

I am sure someone would have researched into the history of Cricket and there should be historical reasons as to how Indians do well in cricket. I read in the blog by Maddy that it was possible that the Kalaripayattu could have influenced the martial arts of China as China had good trade relationships with Calicut and the Silk Street near Tali Temple used to be once the place where the chinese lived during those days.Raghu Menonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03705862402154553974noreply@blogger.com
